These very cool scenes from my home state of Maryland are painted on the ladies room wall at Annapolis High School. (Annapolis HS was my high school football rival team.)

I love the old town of Annapolis.

I love my state of Maryland....I just can't afford to live there.

So we are retiring in Delaware...the next best thing.

Lately I have been printing some fabrics on the computer. The strip with the flower is a rubber stamp on top of an old bill sheet of mine that I almost threw away. I thought wait a minute.... I can use this. Sorry for the poor quality photo.

Been cutting lots of strips of fabric.

I cannot believe it's December already!

All the leaves are gone.

I snapped this bare tree at the beach last week.

And at the airport a cab came over and forced us to collide with the airport shuttle.

My sweet car was hurt. And the taxi driver never stopped so now it's our fault.

On the upside I went to the quilt store and bought the new Bernina 830 LE. I get it this Friday and I can't wait!

I have been so busy lately I just haven't had the time to catch up.

Last weekend I, along with my daughter painted my Grandson's bedroom.

He chose the colors and wanted it painted like a sea and sky scape.

....and my ocean.

He loved it!

I sent a pic of it on my phone to a friend and she thought I was at the beach.

That's a pretty nice compliment.

Celebrating 30 years of marriage with a trip to NYC!

We had a very nice lunch at Mario's place....Eataly. Also a fun place to shop.

Exciting to see RENT again. This time from the second row.We cried along with the cast.

This building kind of makes me dizzy. It looks as though it could just blow over with a stiff wind.

And our worst fear happened when we headed to Times Square to dine at Bubba Gump's. Yep, ran right into the protestors. We didn't realize until it was too late.
It was scary but we made it thru and was able to exit thru the rear of the restaurant.

A cool create sign at the theatre.

Looking forward to the next 30!

Our Quilt show started yesterday and runs thru today.

The donation quilt in my last post had a couple bids and sold.

I was thrilled!

Also sold my bags at the Country Store at the show.

I didn't realize that it had been so long since my last post.

Time is flying by!

This is a snippet of my donation quilt for the up coming quilt show.

I used a different technique. I had all the squares finished and using random machine stitches I sewed them onto a black/gray fabric panel. It's wack-a-do and I love it. I hope someone else likes it too and bids on it. If not I'll be happy to have it back.

This is my favorite time of year to visit the beach. It's cooler, less crowded and the parking meters are gone.

I love the colors and texture of these leaves.

Going to play around with that one on Photoshop.

I love the muted shades in this shot.

I must be hungry because this makes me think of icing on a cookie.

I love watching them.

There was a group of four.

After the wave comes up they run and chase it back to the ocean scooping up whatever it is they eat. Then when the next wave comes up they run from it like they don't want to get their feet wet. If the wave touches their feet they fly away.

OK I have been here a year now and still need to get stuff unpacked.

It's time!

It's cooler now so I am able to get into the garage.

I had it organized back in the fall of last year. I had 5 or 6 bins with the stuff I needed to go in the studio. There are about 30 or more bins out in the garage.

I placed the 6 I needed by the door and would bring them in...until DH decides to rearrange the garage and he put them "somewhere" and he doesn't know where.

I have seached all the wrong bins.

I want my favorite rubber stamps!!

Had everything ready to go.

Someone at the bank forgot to put someones loan thru.

Hopefully they will be ready to go in a week or two....sigh!

If a natural disaster comes your way...beside thinking of your safety, what one thing would you grab?

I grabbed this little guy when hurricane Irene blew into town. I have had him for 54 years. He is my first Steiff bear.

His mohair body is worn from love.

But his cute little expression is far better than the newer bears of today.

His name is Dee.

And I have his parents too along with cousins, ect.

(yes, people think I'm weird....I don't care!)

Irene came and left....I did great. The power was lost for a few hours and I used the last bit of day light to make some flash card art. I sanded the cards as it got dark.

The next day the fun began as I added color and stamped images.

I plan to make my business cards with these.

My handy hanging dryer came from IKEA.

I hope everyone is safe and dry now.

This was the beautiful sunset from last night here in lower Delaware. The calm before the storm.
I have been getting some sew time in on a new quilt before we lose power. Rain and winds are picking up.
This may be my last post for a while if we lose power for days. There are also tornado watches....I thought I had left those behind in Oklahoma.

I forgot to get back to you with the artist of the paper from my last post. This is another page of her art. She is Donna Estabrooks and the papers are from the Colorful Life stack by DCWV.

I printed this on fabric then cut pieces up and rearranged and stitched them. I am going to add some more to it. It's the back page of the fabric journal.

Well, we are supposed to evacuate the area and I, along with friends and neighbors have decided to ride out the hurricane at home. DH is keeping an eye on the weather and giving me updates as they happen. I don't want to leave my kitties and they seem to know that something is up.

It seems that I have traded the heat and tornadoes of Oklahoma for earthquakes and hurricanes.

I was in a store yesterday when everything hanging on the wall started to jiggle and clink. I looked up and the aisle signs were swaying back and forth. I looked at the sales clerk and asked her why was everything moving? Then a man ran up another aisle and yelled "what's going on?"

So now we are preparing for a possible hit from Irene. They are predicting heavy rains and 100 mph winds.

I was supposed to go to the Oriole's game for my grandson's birthday....we'll see.

Our little art group met again and we worked some more on our fabric journals.

This is a memorial page for one of my favorite cats from the past...Chet.

Added a pic of my Mom when she was very young.

I haven't found the photo yet for this page. I copied an art paper from....I forgot the name of the company....I will print it tomorrow along with another page where I used the same process of printing on fabric. This was really fun to free motion stitch on.

At our last Quilt Guild meeting Cyndi Souder was the featured speaker. She put on a fun display of quilts with writing on them. I love art with the written word.

She designed and made this crayon quilt. She changed the names of the colors and wrote them on the crayons with free motion stitching. If you click on the photo you can see it better.
You know me and crayons....it gave me an idea to make a box of crayons in various shades of pink of course. And put Pink Crayon Studio on the box.
I'm putting that on my to do wish list.
Cyndi recieved permission from Binney and Smith to use the Crayola logo...it helped that Mrs. Binney is also a quilter.

My Grandson Kasey drew me some dolphins and I thought they were so cute I painted them on the tops of my kitchen stools. I couldn't decide what to put on them for about a year and once he gave me his drawings I knew that was it!

I recently went to Hershey, PA for a quilt show.

Lots of vendors and a very nice display of the best of the best quilts.

LOVED this huge peony!

All of the detail is in the stitching.

This is pretty wild....

The shading and stitching is beyond words.

My family has just left here from their mini vacation and I need to keep busy now to keep from feeling sad. On a good note my sewing grandson is returning on Friday or Saturday and we have a sew fest planned. Will keep you updated on that fun later.

First of all....what's with all this heat?

Makes it hard to do anything outside.

Second....my deck is finished and I love it!

But cannot use it until it cools down.

I love this quilt by Linda Hahn.

She designed, pieced and quilted it herself.

I guess it's the scrappy-ness of it.

Planning to make one myself.

Add it to the to-do list which is turning into a bucket list at this rate I am moving!

For some unknown reason my computer won't let me center my sentences anymore. It's also doing some weird spacing that I cannot control.

This is my front page of the "ME" book. I used some wire, yarn, pipe cleaner, a metal S, clothing tag and pinned on a random leaf.

Another page that I need to add a photo to. I am printing all of my photo's on fabric.

This page was so much fun. I have been having a blast using Pam Carriker's new Faces stamp. I stamped these then went over the outline with black thread on the machine. The empty space will hold a photo.

And of course a heart page. I'll just randomly stick a photo somewhere on this page.

These pages will be continued at our next meeting next month.

Last weeks sewing fest

Last week was a great week for creating!

First was quilt guild meeting on Tuesday. A great lecture from Linda Hahn. She is one funny lady from New York....she kept us in stitches.

Day two was a class with Linda. The New York Beauty. I love this block. So it was a fun day with friends and I learned a few things.

This is my first block. I decided to make mine with bright colors in the scrappy style.

Day three was the community sewing get together where I met some more neighbors. We decided to keep working on the beauties.

Day four was the local art group. Our project is to make a fabric journal book with photographs. First page had to have our picture on it. I printed mine on fabric and my printer ran out of pink ink and even tho I was printing in black, some blue showed up and made it interesting.

I'll post that page tomorrow.

Went to quilt guild meeting this morning and a friend talked me into signing up for a class and I am so tired right now I can't even think of the block.

The class is tomorrow morning and my homework tonight is to find what fabric I need from my stash, then starch it heavily, and cut 416 pieces.
I have been at it all evening and I didn't make it. Oh well.
The class will be fun and I will post my work along with the name of the block.
Now to check my machine and gather up the tools I will need....some more hours in the day please!

Hot sauce heaven!

Not art related but DH is here for a week and he absolutely loves hot sauces! So I took him to a local store that is strickly hot stuff.
This is just one wall of the place. It's called Peppers and it's in Rehoboth.
They even sell pepper plants so you can grow your own.
We spent a good hour in there.....today is my turn....going to a favorite quilt shop. It's going to be another good hour spent.

Oops...Friday nearly slipped away. Last weekend I was bowling in Nationals in Syracuse, NY with my daughter. It's an annual thing we do together and we always have way too much fun. I didn't bowl too well but had a good time anyway.
I have been busy working on my journals and finishing up some of my old altered art books. I am hoping to take some photo's this weekend and will post them next week.

Quick!

While it is still Friday.

I went to my new dermotologist today and he informed me that he is a surgeon. Well my PCM sent me to him so just check my skin and let me go.

I guess he felt the need to take a chunk out of me so he jabbed me with a needle and punched out a mole that formed just last week. Now I have to go back and have the stitch taken out. It never ends.

I have been able to work in the studio a bit more now that the builder came out and balanced the air system in the house....that equals more art to show. I've been working on some journals to sell and my floral quilt.

Bag for a writer.

I made this bag for a writer friend of mine. We have been friends since we were teens. We both moved around a bit and we even lived in upstate New York at the same time. We had lost track of each other for the last 6 years.

She didn't know I had moved to Oklahoma and she sent me a Christmas card last year. I received it in pretty bad shape...it had done a bit of traveling before finally getting to me.

I looked at the return address and was shocked to see that she was living a stones throw from where I live now.

We are having a good time catching up with each other....what a small world!

I have been enjoying the beach...but now it's tourist season and it's getting hot already. So I will stay in and make art. I am in the quilting mode and I am making a pretty garden quilt.

I am loving these boots!
They are sooo me.

I used to get sent to the office in school for wearing wild clothes.

I didn't get into trouble at home because my Mom made my clothes.
I have not changed....still wild and crazy.

Hard to believe but I am still unpacking and I found a box of theses quilt squares that I had forgotten about. See this is why it is taking me so long to unpack. Now these pretty squares are begging to be sewn together.

...but not today.

But I did have to make a major quilt repair to one of my daughters favorite quilts. Had to pry it from her hands...told her if she wanted to keep it longer it had to get some help.

This is a quilted cloth calendar in book form.

Art Quilting magazine asked me to submit some work and decided this wasn't what they were looking for...oh well...I'll try something else for them. But it was a lot of fun to make. I will show more later.

Today is a beautiful day...nice and cool after a few days of storms and mugginess. So I am up in the studio and need to finally get it organized because I was told by DH that I need to get crack-a-lacking and open my Etsy shop so he can retire. Ha ha...he's funny.

I watched the condensed version of the Royal wedding. So nice of them to take 4 hours and shrink it down to 40 minutes.

Why am I so fascinated with rusty stuff?
I am always looking down in parking lots and such...
...and picking up the rusted pieces as I get "the stare" from DH.

Sometimes finding the perfect rusty piece makes my day!

Well, call me crazy but it's the simple things in life that make me happy.
And the makes DH happy in the long run.

There she is...

...Miz P...offering her help with my sewing...again!

It takes twice as long to get things done with her so called help.

But she is just sooo sweet and she needs to be glued to my side. I have never had a cat like her. If she loses me in the house, she will sit and cry until I tell her where I am.

I have to get a quilt finished by Friday so I am off to sew for the day.

Mother Nature blessed us with a beautiful day yesterday in the 70's, only to follow it up with a storm and more nasty weather....go figure.

Sewing bliss!

Once again sewing with my Grandson.

He is helping me with a quilt that I am making for myself.

I am so proud...I showed him how to sew a four square block and his matched up in the center better than mine. He's a natural. The first thing he wants to do when he gets here is head to the studio (which he loves) and start sewing.

Not sure when I will be back to post as I have been called upon to serve jury duty. For four weeks....and that's about all I can say about that. Wish me luck as I am healing. There are only 2 handicap parking spaces at the courthouse and parking is off street where ever you can find it...nice.

...I had my knee surgery last week.

Sorry I didn't get to check in beforehand...
...things got a little crazy and before I knew it...
...it was time.
Healing pretty well I think.
My first time up the steps...I should be back blogging again next week.

I had a creative spark yesterday so I ditched my housework and played.

I made little pennants to string across the studio ceiling.

I made a template and cut the shapes from my empty cereal boxes.

Got out my box of paper scraps...

...and went to town!

...adds a festive touch...

...added in some vintage Grandson art.

It was so much fun and relaxing too.

I couldn't stop until I ran out of shapes to cover.

Fussy cutting 101

I have been wanting to make this floral quilt for years!

I started yesterday...fussy cutting the flowers for the center.

Not exactly sure how it's going to go together...

...I am winging it.

Cute pink print with bicycles with 70's banana seats!

A baby quilt for a nursery done up in pink and brown.

I have to add a pinch of green to tie in the green on the seats.

FYI: For those who may be wondering what the heck fussy cutting is, it's the process of cutting out a design that is printed on the fabric as seen above.

I am going to log cabin the squares and will keep it posted for you.

I still can't remember how to edit my photo's, so here is an unedited pic of a birthday card I made for a special 18 year old. It's a cardstock CD case and this is the inside.
Last week I was busy making big 6-0 cards which I will try to show next week when I have the time to sit and remember how to edit?
Getting older is not fun.

I will return next week with hopefully some new art. Have to shake this winter funk.

When I bought this metal star it was a medium shade of green. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I put a layer of joint compound on it to add texture.
Then I painted it two shades of beige/off white. I knew I wanted to put vines on it but couldn't get the real (honeysuckle) vines to cooperate. I found some faux vines made of wire and wrapped them around the star.
At Christmas I put the twig with berries on and decided I really liked them there and kept them.
They say stars bring you good luck, so it hangs in my living room.

YAY!

A new month has started....

And it's a short one.

48 more days until Spring!

Made these stars yesterday.

That is why it takes me so long with the studio.

I am easily side tracked by little projects.

They started out pretty plain.

They are just those brown paper mach'e stars.

I removed the cheesy gold hanging string.
And replaced with gold wire.

I used the dollar bottles of glittery glue sold at Michaels to give them an extra shine. But it doesn't show on these photo's.

I have them hanging around the studio for a bit of pizazz.

Sorry I wasen't able to crop these pic's. Still trying to get used to this new computer and I forgot how to do it. Oh and they are out of order too but lately thats how I am feeling. It will get better!

Another dreary winter day...

I awoke a few days ago to this smiling creature in my bedroom window. It's a big rusty iron crab that I put in the window while vacuuming and forgot to put back on the floor.

It gave me a chuckle and I thought I'd pass it along.

and it's supposed to start snowing....

It's a perfect studio day!

I hung up my antique quilt for a curtain in the sun room and it keeps it warmer in the room.

I painted the saying on an old cabinet door. We decided to retire in Delaware....it's where we met...fell in love...and married.

And we both love the beach!

And no sales tax....it's a good thing.

Hello again from the east coast!

Geez, I've been gone from blogland for so long I have almost forgotten how to post. First of all, let me explain my long absence. My computers hard drive crashed! It's a new computer.....not even a year old yet. The company argued and said it could not happen. ell it did and we had to have a new hard drive sent and then waited for a geek to come out and install it. And yes I lost everything. All my photo's. No I didn't back it up.
Lesson learned. I seem to like to learn things the hard way.

Then there's the bad leg. Found out I have torn my meniscus in my knee and need to have surgery to fix it. I see the surgeon this Thursday.

Then there is the doggone snow.

I can't drive my car in this stuff!

Since I have been housebound and stuck downstairs....I painted some funky walls. I painted my hallway like this. I used some brighter colors then used a brown wash to tone it down. I really love it.

I do have some fabric art I am working on and will share some later on this week.

Sadly no art is being generated at this time...

For the past 7 weeks now I have been suffering with pain in my back and leg. Being new in the area I was going to use the base here for my medical. I called for an appointment and explained that I was experiencing some severe pain and they gave me an appointment 4 weeks out. So finally the day came for my long awaited appointment and I drove an hour to get there only to be told that my appointment was cancelled and someone was supposed to have called me. No one called me and I was near tears and asked if someone could see me. NO! Not today....go to the emergency room. So I asked where it was....we dont have one, you need to go downtown.

I went home and started what I needed to do to see someone sooner off base.
After hours of talking to some pretty nasty people on the phone and some paperwork I finally was set up with a new PCM. A nurse...they couldn't see me for weeks and gave me a 10 minute appt. and she told me she didn't want to be my PCM. I agreed that I needed a real doctor and now I am scheduled to see him in JANUARY!

Today I see a back doc.....but my back is better after a round of steroids. I am supposed to see a knee guy but they said the back doc will take care of it.OK...we'll see.

So I have a fluid accumulation on my knee and I can barely walk at times and can't handle stairs very well and guess where my computer is now? Yep....upstairs.

So bear with me with my sorely neglected blog....hopefully things will get resolved today and I can finish getting this studio set up and start making some art again!!

Off to see another doctor today.

Hoping they can fix my leg or at least tell me what is wrong.

The pain is too bad to wait until my regular appointment on the 7th.

Lots to get done for the holiday season and I need my leg.

Been out of touch...

...no computer for days.

It was my router....it needed resetting.

The poor guy talked me thru it on the phone.

I wouldn't let him hang up...we couldn't find it.

Told him I must not have one...it was hiding in the wall in the hall closet.

So I am back again....and still playing with the Hipstamatic app.

Thought I would send out some color now that things are dying away here inthe states.

My sun room is finished.

I went for the garden theme.

I ordered this couch.

Mine is a softer fabric in a putty shade.
I'll post it later.

But oh so soft and compfy!

While I was back in Oklahoma last month we went to see Kristen Chenoweth. She was fantastic!

How that huge beautiful voice comes out of that tiny body is beyond me. And funny? She had us cracking up to the point of tears.

Well, I am off to vote now.

Still painting rooms and unpacking if you can believe that.

Throw in some traveling and some family drama ...

...but now I am set to settle back in and post on a regular basis again.

I think my little sewing buddy, Pippi, is also having some studio withdrawal. We will be back at the sewing machine real soon. I finally got my car in the garage today! I have some pic's somewhere and when I find them and show them to you....you will realize what a feat it was.

Inch by inch and day by day I am getting there.

I think maybe climbing a mountain would be easier!

Hello!

I have not forgotten you...

....I have not quit my blog.

I am still sorting things out...

...unpacking and painting.

Little by little it's all starting to come together.

For now I promise to post at least once a week.

Probably on Fridays.

I ate t the Fenwick Crab House and this cute school of fish was painted on my seat. Had to share their funny faces with you.

The studio is starting to shape up and next week I will start posting some photo's.

I am having major art cravings and admit to collaging a few items here and there....and today I am going to a quilt shop. It's been months and I have not bought any fabric!!! Not that i need any but hey....it keeps me off the streets.

I feel so naked without posting some sort of photo.

I am on the old computer and it doesn't want to upload anything.

Earl was a bust...not even a good rain.

But that's OK.

Last week was a hard one for me as my niece lost her husband to a heart attack. He was only 36 years old and this was totally a shock to everyone. They have a 7 year old son and she is expecting a baby girl in January. Things like this remind me that every day is a gift.

So I have been enjoying time with my family and the house will get done when it gets done. But it is coming along. Guest room one is finished and I have started on the studio walls. The garage is full of boxes that need to come up to the studio and I am determined to get it done pretty quick so I can make some art and put my car in the garage.

I'll be back on random friday and promise some photo's then.
